you know what needs to be a thing?
Lumpy Space Princess panties.
Actually, we need a bunch of AT princess panties (+ Marceline for period panties) But mostly LSP
ETA- Found Marceline
though it looks like a thong maybe
What if all of Ooo is just a hallucination by Simon?
Only a few years have passed, now an adult Marceline comes back to check on him from time to time. It’s only a matter of decades before they’ll both die of old age and leave the earth entirely uninhabited.
But sometimes, when he’s in a more happy mood, he’ll tell her stories about the wonderful adventures that happen in his head and that’s enough.
Things I might cosplay at the con in a couple months
Grell (R-rated, most likely, since that’s what I have already complete)
Butler!Grell (I don’t have the costume, but it would be simple enough for me to pull off)
Marshall Lee (My friend is being Fiona)
Watari (I have the L monogrammed teaset)
I’m also doing a Sherlock Holmes themed room party but probably won’t have a relevant cosplay.
What do you most think I should cosplay?
Missing the point with fandom issues
When that whole Bubbeline fiasco happened on Adventure Time, a lot of people were upset, not necessarily because of something so simple as wanting their ship to become canon, although that was incidental. What was really an issue was the opportunity for a same-gender couple to be represented on a normal kids’ show, with the same sort of respect as any other couple. The really offensive problem was the fact that the stance of the powers-that-be, (however they might claim misinterpretation or ‘no offense intended’) gave the impression that they consider a lesbian couple to be inherently too inappropriate for children.
That backlash also went through the fandom. While in the same breath dismissing the defenders as ‘just too attached to your pairing’, people made the incredibly problematic assertion that any gay pairing is inappropriate for a kids’ show, even when portrayed alongside all of the straightness in the series. They made homophobic arguments to reason why the girls could never be together; they were too feminine to be lesbians, or they had a history of dating boys. Quibbling about interpretations, ships, and small points of canon were missing the point of the larger homophobia inherent in the whole issue. Marceline and Bubblegum could, in an epsiode, simultaneously (and verbosely) declare “We have both always loved boys and only boys and we will only ever love each other as platonic friends”, and the homophobic backlash against the ship would still be a problem.
As much as I’m prepared to argue about something like why I consider Grell from Black Butler to be a ‘she’, citing all sorts of canon and semi-canon sources, historical, linguistic and social context of the character and the media she comes from, it’s all beside the point. Even some people on the ‘grell is trans’ side are missing the larger issue at hand in the whole wank by saying that “it’s confirmed canon, the author says Grell is trans, so that’s that”.
Because even if Yana were to explicitly (and verbosely) declare “Sorry for the confusion, but I have written Grell to be more of gender-variant male identified character under the ‘okama’ stereotype, which doesn’t necessarily translate cleanly from Japanese to English, but Grell ultimately identifies as an effeminate man and should go by male pronouns in english, and that is your Word Of God.” that still wouldn’t excuse the really offensive, transphobic, misogynist, homophobic and otherwise terrible things that the fandom tends to say when arguing about Grell’s gender. After a certain point, it’s not about interpretation or opinions anymore, because those can be argued to death when we’re talking about a fictional character.
It’s not about your ships, or your personal headcanons. It’s about saying and believing shitty, hurtful things. When we can finally discuss personal interpretations and pairings without saying shitty hurtful things that affect real groups of people, then we can have this be ‘just about a stupid cartoon character’.
For a while, I was so sure
That for Halloween I wanted to do a full-grasyscale makeup and costume as an old silent film star, preferably Charlie Chaplin. I got some grayscale makeup for it.
Then I wanted to be Doctor 11. I got a wig for it. I want to go thrifting for his outfit anyway. The Sonic Screwdriver would be hard to make though.
Then I thought I should be Marceline from Adventure Time. I already have the gray makeup and my wrecked old Envy wig should suffice with some restyling. I can get fangs from the halloween store and easily get most of her outfit from my closet or thrifting. I could make her guitar out of foamboard or cardboard.
I kind of want a Princess Bubblegum to go with though ;-;.
I’m thinking that Marceline or the Doctor would be great for work (I’m almost definitely going to be working on Halloween day) since there are a lot of kids at the store who would probably like Adventure Time, and The Doctor is a jolly character to do customer service as.
For the halloween clubbing/costume contest (when I go out with friends), I think the grayscale costume might work, but it’d also be too hot for dancing in.
